Georgian Officials Visit the Holy See

During the first year of my posting as Ambassador of Georgia to the Holy See I participated in a couple of very important events promoted by the Roman Pontiff and organized by Roman Curia. These were the launch and discussions around the papal encyclical on Climate Change and fighting trafficking globally. My efforts have been applied towards involving the Georgian state into these processes.

Right at the start of my appointment there was an official visit of Archbishop Domenic Mamberti (now Cardinal Mamberti), the Secretary for the Relations with States, to Tbilisi, Georgia. It was a remarkable entry into the Georgia-Holy See inter-state relations. Later in the year I also accompanied Cardinal Kurt Koch on his pastoral visit to Georgia, President of the Pontifical Council for Promotion of Christian Unity.

Since last October three important visits were paid to the Holy See by the Georgian officials: state visit of the President HE Giorgi Margvelashvili to His Holiness Pope Francis, meeting of  Speaker of the Parliament HE David Usupashvili with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin (on both occasions the Georgian guests had an opportunity to meet also Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Holy See),  and meeting of Minister of Culture HE Mikheil Giorgadze with President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi.

The past year has been adorned by the national state choir "Rustavi" performing Georgian traditional music in two splendid churches of Rome, San Giorgio in Velabro and San Augustino. The first concert was recorded and transmitted both by Vatican Radio and TV.

Most importantly, the Embassy has been fully engaged into the rich life of the diplomatic corps and established personal working relations with many from Roman Curia as well as of diplomatic missions.

What an interesting start!
