Main functions and responsibilities:

  • Coordinating the work with Georgia’s embassies to the European countries and Georgia’s diplomatic representations to the European Union; obtaining all necessary documents, materials and information from the Georgian embassies accredited to the EU member states, as well as from the Permanent Representation of Georgia to the European Communities;
  • Informing the Georgian embassies accredited to the EU member states, as well as the Permanent Representation of Georgia to the European Communities on the oral or written decisions of the Minister and the Deputy Ministers;
  • Pursuing active cooperation, within the scope of the Department’s competence, with the European Commission’s delegation accredited to Georgia as well as with the embassies of the European countries;
  • Pursuing close cooperation with the European Union’s special representative to South Caucasus;
  • Conducting cooperation and political consultations with the European Union’s various institutes (European Commission, European Parliament, EU Council, etc);
  • Preparing visits of the Georgian President and representatives of the Georgian Government to the EU institutes, as well as official visits of the EU senior officials to Georgia; drafting relating documents (reports, talking points,  analytical materials);
  • Preparing proposals regarding the rules of concluding international treaties with the European Union;
  • Coordinating the implementation by the Ministry’s other entities of specific tasks relating to Georgia’s relations with the European Union;
  • Pursuing cooperation with the Ministry’s structural entities as well as with other agencies and organizations of Georgia, in order to facilitate the process of Georgia’s full and consistent integration with the European Union;
  • Ensuring the political assessment of and monitoring over the implementation of the EU-Georgia Partnership and Cooperation Agreement;
  • Submitting relevant information and recommendations to the leadership of the Ministry regarding Georgia’s engagement in the European Neighbourhood Policy;
  • Facilitating bilateral and multilateral cooperation, within the scope of the Department’s competence, within the framework of Eastern Partnership;
  • Preparing and promoting the effective functioning of the sittings of the Georgia-EU cooperation institutes; taking part in the meetings of the EU-Georgia inter-parliamentary cooperation committee;
  • Preparing proposals regarding close cooperation within the framework of the European Union’s EU foreign and security policy;
  • Promoting the harmonization of the Georgian laws with the European legislation;
  • Pursuing cooperation with the EU member states and candidate countries in order to benefit from their experience in the area of EU accession;
  • Preparing sittings, within the scope of the Department’s competence, which are to be chaired or co-chaired by the Minister.
