Main functions and responsibilities:

  • Pursuing close cooperation with Georgia’s representations with the international organizations (UN, OSCE, Council of Europe), as well as with the representations of the international organizations accredited in Georgia; working out respective instructions and exchanging information;
  • Carrying out targeted and consistent measures on the international arena aimed at achieving the full de-occupation of Georgia’s occupied territories and conducting policy of not recognizing the autonomous republic of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region as independent states;
  • Coordinating the relations of the Ministry’s structural entities as well as  governmental and non-governmental organizations with the international organizations; working out respective recommendations and proposals for the implementation of targeted and consistent measures by Georgia on the international arena;
  • Promoting the peaceful settlement of the conflicts in Georgia through cooperation with the international organizations (UN, OSCE, Council of Europe);
  • Exercising control, within the scope of the Department’s competence, over the payment by Georgia of its membership fees to various international organizations and facilitating the payment of arrears; coordinating the activities of the respective structural entities of the Ministry;
  • Coordinating the activities relating to nominating candidates to international organizations as well as to voting for the candidates of other countries;
  • Preparing talking points for the officials paying official visits abroad and taking part in the meetings.
