Main functions and responsibilities:

  • Pursuing the process of Georgia’s integration with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization;
  • Pursuing active cooperation on the issues relating to Euro-Atlantic integration with  the Mission of Georgia to NATO, the NATO Liaison office in Georgia, the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Georgia, as well as with the diplomatic representations of the NATO member States in Georgia;
  • Pursuing cooperation with the international organizations working in the areas of defence, security and arms control, as well as with Georgia’s diplomatic representations and missions to these organizations, and coordinating cooperation with other government agencies;
  • Pursuing active cooperation with the representations and missions of the international organizations in Georgia in the areas of defence, security and arms control, and coordinating cooperation with other government agencies;
  • Pursuing cooperation with the international organizations working on the issues relating to new threats – terrorism, organized crime, drugs traffic, trafficking in human beings, global climate change; cooperating with foreign countries in the aforesaid areas and coordinating cooperation with other government agencies;
  • Coordinating the implementation of international commitments undertaken by Georgia in the areas of disarmament and arms control;
  • Taking part in the elaboration of international treaties in the field of defence and security; working out recommendations and conclusions on the ratification and denunciation of such treaties through the consultations with respective authorities;
  • Ensuring that the issues relating to defence and security are properly reflected in the talking points for meetings with foreign partners.
