Diplomatic relations between Georgia and Romania were established on 25 June 1992.

Main Fields of Cooperation:

Friendly and politically close relations between Georgia and Romania are dynamically developing.

Legal framework between the two countries regulates almost every direction of cooperation, including economy, tourism, agriculture, maritime trade, culture, science, sports, and the fight against serious crime areas.

Cooperation in the fields of trade, economic development, energy and transport are high on the agenda.

It should be noted that, Georgia together with Moldova and Serbia is in the priority list of Romania’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). Romanian side is implementing projects in Georgia since 2007.

The legislative bodies of the two countries cooperate successfully. Both Parliaments practice Parliamentary friendship groups.

Romania strongly supports Georgia`s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Romania was the first Member State of the European Union, who has ratified the Association Agreement between Georgia and European Union. Romanian side has adopted number of statements in support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Embassy of Romania in Georgia has successfully combined the function of NATO contact point Embassy in 2013-2016.

St. Anthimos of Iberia is a symbol of unity of Georgia and Romania. Georgian researcher, religious and political figure, dedicated himself to the revival of the Romanian culture and significantly contributed to the development of Romanian literary language and book printing.
