Tbilisi will host the Georgian-Latvian Economic Commission in December

The next session of the Georgian-Latvian Economic Commission will be held in Tbilisi, on 7-8 December 2015, Giorgi Kvirikashvili is quoted as saying after his meeting with his Latvian counterpart, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs.

The Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister underlined the existing prospects for development of economic relations between Latvia and Georgia, particularly in the context of new projects that provide for further strengthening of Georgia’s function as a transit country.
 
“Tbilisi will host the session of the Georgian-Latvian Inter-Governmental Economic Commission during which the most important issues of economic co-operation will be discussed. There is a solid foundation for growth of economic co-operation, particularly, in the context of the important projects, including the Silk Road Development Initiative and other transit projects, Georgia has been carrying out together with Latvia to strengthen Georgia’s role as a transit country”, Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.

Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined the existing trade relations between the two countries and focused on the progress Georgia has achieved in the implementation of the Agreement on Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). “The Association Agreement with the European Union has already yielded positive results. Latvia will support Georgia in implementation of the most important provisions of this Agreement”, Edgars Rinkēvičs said at the joint press conference.
