The European Parliament’s LIBE Committee has voted in favour of the report on the introduction of the visa-free regime for Georgia

On 5 September 2016, the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) has voted in favour of the report on the introduction of the visa-free regime for Georgia  by Parliament´s rapporteur for the proposal, Mariya Gabriel (EPP).

The Committee approved the visa waiver for Georgia by 44 votes to 5, paving the way for the plenary vote in the European Parliament.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry welcomes the voting results of the LIBE Committee, which is yet another confirmation of the recognition of successful reforms carried out by Georgia and the European Parliament’s political support for Georgia’s visa liberalization.

After the voting and the adoption of the regulation, the amendment will be approved by the Council of the European Union at the European Parliament's plenary session.
