Tamar Beruchashvili awarded Gender Equality Contest winners

On 6 July 2015, Georgian Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili participated in the annual ceremony of awarding Gender Equality Contest winners. The ceremony was attended by President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili. The Foreign Minister addressed the audience and awarded the company GTS Electronics for best and most innovative gender policy.

Tamar Beruchashvili underlined the role of the Foreign Ministry in terms of pursuing a gender policy in the country and carrying out its international obligations. The Minister put emphasis on the efforts made in this direction and noted that the year of 2015 is symbolic and important for putting forth the women’s problems and that at the initiative of the Foreign Ministry, on 9-10 November 2015 Tbilisi will host a high-level international conference: “Achieving gender equality – challenges and possibilities in the ENP region”. The Conference provides for sharing the international experience in the following issues: women's economic and political empowerment; women’s involvement in peace and security building initiatives; prevention of violence against women and girls.  

First Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia and Chair of the Gender Equality Council Manana Kobakhidze and Deputy Head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Shombi Sharp addressed the participants of the annual event. The Grand Award for Gender Equality was handed by President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili.
