Georgian participants at the Geneva International Discussions held a working meeting with the co-chairs of the Discussions

On February 20, 2015 Georgian participants at the Geneva International Discussions held a working meeting with the co-chairs of the Discussions. The Georgian side was led by the  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the Georgian Delegation to the Geneva International Discussions, Mr. David Dondua.

The sides discussed issues pertaining to the working agenda of the upcoming 31th round scheduled for March 17-18. The Georgian side expressed its concern over the so-called "treaty on state border" signed between Russian Federation and the Russian occupation regime in Tskhinvali. It was underlined that by signing this document the Russian Federation vainly attempts to conceal the de facto annexation of the Georgian territories stemming from the upcoming so-called "treaty on alliance and integration”. In this context, the Georgian side once again underlined the importance of the unilateral, legally binding  non-use of force pledge by Russia and the need for the establishment of international security mechanisms inside the occupied regions.

The sides also discussed the agenda of the 2nd Working Group of the Geneva International Discussions, dealing with the humanitarian issues. The necessity to respect the fundamental rights of internally displaced persons and refugees was emphasized. The co-Chairs briefed the Georgian side on the results of the work carried out by the health expert in the Abkhazia region.

The Georgian side once again stressed the importance of the Geneva International Discussions and reiterated readiness to continue constructive participation in the format.
