Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani continues his visit to Qatar

06.02.2017–Delegation of the Georgian Foreign Ministry led by First Deputy Minister David Zalkaliani paid a working visit to the State of Qatar from 5 to 7 February 2017.

Within the framework of the visit, on 5 February, the Georgian delegation held meetings with Executive Director Maher Hakim of the Qatar Science &Technology Park and Director General Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari of the Qatar Development Fund.
 
Within the framework of his meeting at the Qatar Science &Technology Park, David Zalkaliani provided the Qatari side with detailed information on the business and investment environment in Georgia. Discussions also focused on technology and innovations projects in the country, as well as on the possibility for the Qatar Science&Technology Park to participate in these projects. In this context, the sides also noted the importance of exchanging Georgian and Qatari experts.


During his meeting at the Qatar Development Fund, the First Deputy Foreign Minister thanked the Director General of the Fund for financial assistance rendered to flood-affected people in June 2015.

The Qatari side was provided with detailed information on the investment projects and social projects ongoing in Georgia. The Director General of the Qatar Development Fund briefed the Georgian delegation on the implemented projects in the areas of health and education.
 
Within the framework of the visit, the Deputy Foreign Minister held meetings with Minister of State for Defense Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah and Director General of Public Security Saad Bin Jassim Al Khulaifi. The Georgian delegation provided the Qatari side with information on the ongoing reforms in the areas of defence and security.  
 
On 6 February the Georgian delegation held a meeting with the executive director of ASTAD – one of the largest Qatari construction and consultation companies. Discussions focused on the implemented and ongoing projects of the company, as well as on the ongoing and planned infrastructure and urban projects in Georgia, investment opportunities and possible ways of co-operation with ASTAD.

On 7 February, the Georgian delegation held a meeting with Executive Director of Ooredoo Company Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani and Chair of the Chamber of Trade Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani. The Georgian delegation briefed the Qatari side on the Government’s economic policy, business environment and investment opportunities of the country.
