Georgia expects important messages from Germany – David Zalkaliani

17.08.2018, Tbilisi – The Georgian Foreign Minister, David Zalkaliani commented on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s forthcoming visit to Georgia. According him, it will be Merkel’s second visit to Georgia in 10 years. “Against the background of challenges facing Georgia, the importance of the visit of the chancellor of such EU Member State as Germany cannot be overestimated. Equally important is the timing of this visit” – Zalkaliani said adding that Georgia expects important messages from Germany.

As the Minister told journalists, discussions will focus on all issues on the bilateral agenda of Georgia-Germany relations. Special attention will be paid to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration course and co-operation with the partner countries. Key accent, in this context, will be placed on the economic dimension of co-operation. It is important for us to ensure that the level of political co-operation with Germany is achieved in economic dimension as well” – Zalkaliani said

According to the Minister, a business forum will be held within the framework of the German Chancellor’s visit to Georgia. The forum will be attended by the representative delegation from Germany. “This forum is yet another opportunity to discuss the ways for further intensifying economic relations between Georgia and Germany” – the Georgian Foreign Minister said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will pay a visit to Georgia on 23 and 24 August.
