GOPAC will use Georgia’s success as a source of inspiration for other countries

08.10.2018, Tbilisi - The Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Vakhtang Makharoblishvili held a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC), Akaash Maharaj.
The Deputy Minister provided the GOPAC Chief Executive Officer with detailed information regarding Georgia’s progress in terms of democratic reforms and fight against corruption, as well as on the security climate in Georgia and in the region, the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and prospects  for bilateral co-operation between Georgia and Canada.
It was highlighted during the meeting that Georgia’s corruption index is one of the lowest not only in the region but also in Europe. Special attention was paid to Georgia’s achievements in terms of open and effective governance. The sides underlined Georgia’s successful chairmanship of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) which will be taken over by Canada from October.  
According to Akaash Maharaj, Georgia is the region’s leader in terms of fight against corruption and effective governance, and serves as a role model inspiring other countries to follow. He said that he will bring the example of Georgia to the attention of other countries and will work towards deepening links between the Georgian and Canadian Parliaments, as well as towards facilitating the experience-sharing mutual co-operation between MPs of Georgia and the Members States of GOPAC.
