US Secretary of State saddened by death of Georgian soldier killed in Afghanistan

 
11.08.2017, Tbilisi - United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson sent a letter of condolence to Georgian Vice Premier, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze over the death of Junior sergeant Mdinari Bebiashvili, who was killed in an attack during a joint patrol on Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on 3 August.  

“Junior sergeant Bebiashvili is a hero and I want to express condolence to you, the sergeant’s family and the Georgian people”, Tillerson said in a letter sent to Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
 
In his letter Tillerson reiterated the statement that the US Vice President Mike Pence had made during his recent visit to Georgia that the US respects Georgia’s contribution to security in Afghanistan as a non-NATO member state.
