The Greek side welcomes the use of effective means to de-escalate the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions

 
23.09.On the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani met with his Greek counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias.

 
The sides discussed the historically friendly relations between Georgia and the Hellenic Republic.
 
Thanking Nicos Dendias for the Greek Government’s strong support for Georgia’s European  and Euro-Atlantic integration, Zalkaliani briefed his colleague on the challenges facing Georgia, including the difficult security and human rights situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. According to the Greek Foreign Minister, it is necessary to ensure that all existing formats are functioning effective, which calls for new approaches to be adopted.
 
Zalkaliani expressed his gratitude for Greece for its support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and active participation in the EUMM which plays a special role in terms of ensuring security on the ground.
 
While on the theme of people-to-people contacts the Georgian delegation thanked the Greek side for starting work towards simplifying migration and legalization procedures for Georgians living in Greece.
