David Zalkaliani has met with the President of the Senate of Spain

28.01.2019, Spain – Successful partner relations between Spain and Georgia were discussed at a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Zalkaliani and the President of the Senate of Spain, Pío García-Escudero Márquez. 
The sides noted with satisfaction the mutual political and practical support in bilateral, as well as multilateral formats.

Highly appraising Georgia’s progress in realizing the European and Euro-Atlantic goals, the President of the Senate said that Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration is of paramount importance to Europe’s security and stability.

Discussions focused on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and the peace policy the Georgia government pursues. Reaffirming his strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Pío García-Escudero thanked David Zalkaliani for Georgia’s support of the territorial integrity of Spain in the context of the Catalonia’s self-determination process.

Highlighting the need of deepening inter-parliamentary co-operation, the sides positively assessed the upcoming visit of the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament to Spain.

The President of the Senate highly appraised amendments made to the Georgian Constitution that considerably increased the parliament’s role in the public administration and represents a considerable step forward on Georgia’s European integration path.
The sides agreed to further continue co-operation for the further strengthening of relations between the two countries.
