David Zalkaliani has met with the Vice President of Uruguay and the President of the Chamber of Deputies

18.03.2019, Montevideo – Within the framework of his visit to Uruguay, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani met with Vice President and President of the Chamber of Senators of Uruguay Lucia Topolansky.
Highly appraising the friendly relations and political co-operation between Georgia and Uruguay, the sides highlighted the great potential both countries have in terms of democratic development and full realization of economic possibilities. The Georgian Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for Uruguay’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.  The sides emphasized that Georgia and Uruguay as small countries are often facing common challenges and prospects.
David Zalkalini brought to the attention of the Uruguayan Vice President the ongoing processes in Georgia, economic development plan and European integration agenda.  Discussions focused on the transit function of Georgia and the inferastructure projecs implemented in the country. Special mention was taken of the free trade agreements Georgia has signed with the EU and the world’s leading economies.
The same day, the Georgian Foreign Minister met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Uruguay Cecilia Bottino. Special attention was paid to co-operation between the two countries at the parliamentary level. Co-operation between Georgia and Uruguay within the international organizations was positively appraised. Conversations included issues relating to sustainable development and human rights protection. It was highlighted that Georgia is one of the successful countries in terms of implementing the 16th goal envisaging inclusive and transparent management and fight against corruption.  
Underlining the need to deepen people-to-people contacts, the sides highly appraised the cultural events scheduled to take place on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relation between Georgia and Uruguay.
