Janelidze – NATO membership is an essential prerequisite for strengthening Georgia’s security and ensuring its stabile development”

20.12.2017, Tbilisi - “Membership of NATO is one of the main objectives of Georgia’s Foreign and Security policy and an essential prerequisite for strengthening Georgia’s security and ensuring its stabile development” - Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said about this speaking at the joint hearing of the Parliament’s Diaspora, European Integration and Foreign Relations committees on 20 December.  
 
The Minister referred to high-level visits and meetings held in the course of 2017 as Georgia’s main achievements in the area of Euro-Atlantic integration, including the visit of the NATO military committee; the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; over 20 meetings of the NATO-Georgia Commission, including at the level of defence ministers.
 
According to Mikheil Janelidze, Georgia’s NATO integration priorities for the coming years is to ensure that Georgia is duly represented in all international formats at the NATO Summit in 2018; to develop mutually beneficial co-operation with NATO with the goal of strengthening the Black Sea security; to arrange high-level meetings and an active political dialogue with the Alliance; to further advance the integration process through the use of such instruments as the Annual Action Plan and the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package.
