Comment on the meeting between the president of the Russian Federation and the leader of the Sokhumi occupation regime

The official representative of the Georgian Foreign Ministry Vladimer Konstantinidi commented on the meeting between the president of the Russian Federation and the leader of the Sokhumi occupation regime.

“Vladimer Putin’s meeting with the leader of the Sokhumi occupation regime on the eve of the 11th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia war represents Russia’s yet another illegal attempt to legitimize the occupation regimes and to authorize its own control over the occupied regions.

This action by Russia is directed against Georgia’s statehood, sovereignty and territorial integrity and grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law.

Despite Russia’s attempts, the international community will never tolerate the illegal occupation of Georgia’s integral regions.

The international community firmly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the non-recognition policy with respect to the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, as clearly evidenced by the public statements made and documents adopted by various countries and international organizations, as well as by their effective steps towards peaceful resolution of the conflict”.
