Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze has met UK Minister of State Sir Alan Duncan

17.02.2017, Munich -  Within the framework of the 53rd Munich Security Conference, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting with Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Sir Alan Duncan.

The sides discussed strategic co-operation between Georgia and Great Britain. Discussions also focused on the relations in the areas of defence, security, economy, energy and people-to-people contacts, as well as on new opportunities opened up by bilateral co-operation.  

The UK Minister of State and the Georgian Foreign Minister also spoke about issues relating to Georgia’s integration with NATO and the European Union. Georgia’s important contribution to Euro-Atlantic security was highlighted. Mikheil Janelidze thanked Sir Alan Duncan for the support of Georgia’s integration with NATO and for the UK’s active involvement in the implementation of the Substantial Package.

The UK Minister of State welcomed the European Parliament’s decision to grant Georgian citizens visa-free travel with the EU. The sides emphasized that the UK’s decision to withdraw from the European Union will not create any barrier in its relations with Georgia and Great Britain will continue its firm support of Georgia.
