Mikheil Janelidze has met Congressman Ted Poe, Co-chair of the Georgia Caucus at the U.S. Congress

22.03.2017, Washington - Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze continues to hold meetings as part of his visit to Washington.
Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting with Congressman Ted Poe, Co-chair of the Georgia Caucus at the U.S. Congress.

The Minister thanked the congressman for Georgia’s active support and for the activities of the Caucus Georgia, including for making Georgia’s supportive statement during the hearing on Russia at the Congress Foreign Relations Committee

The sides spoke about Georgia-U.S. strategic partnership. The Congressman his strong support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Discussions also focused the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions. The Georgian side highlighted the threats coming from the militarization of the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, closure of so-called crossing points and so-called referendum to be held in Tskhinvali.  

The sides noted with satisfaction the intensive character of U.S. Georgia co-operation, including the increasing level of co-operation between the legislative bodies of the two countries and the exchange of high-level visits.
