The Swedish and Polish foreign ministers' visit ahead of the EaP Summit is a clear signal of support for Georgia – Mikheil Janelidze

14.11.2017, Tbilisi -  “I am confident that the Eastern Partnership Summit will have successful outcomes for Georgia, Eastern Partnership and the European Union, and will once again register its support for Georgia’s European choice and European aspirations and will also identify practical steps that will bring benefits to our people” - the Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said when commenting on his meeting with his Swedish and Polish counterparts Margot Wallström and Witold Waszczykowski.
According to Mikheil Janelidze, the visit of the foreign ministers of the EP initiating countries a few days prior to the Brussels Summit is a clear proof of their support for Georgia.
He also spoke about Georgia’s bilateral co-operation with Sweden and Poland – that countries that have significantly contributed to the further development of Georgia.
“This support is of the highest value and we already see the results of this support. Georgia has achieved tremendous success in the format of Eastern Partnership. Today Georgia is an associated partner of the EU integrated with the EU market via the Free Trade Agreement, which has made the EU Georgia’s number one trade partner. Besides, Georgian citizens enjoy visa-free travel with the Schengen area, Georgia is a member of the Energy Community (EC), and an important partner of the EU in the areas of defence and security. This is recognized in the European Union’s global security document, as well as in the European Commission’s recent report reaffirming that Georgia is the EU’s main strategic partner” – the Minister said. According to him, Georgia meets the Eastern Partnership Summit in good shape.
Mikheil Janelidze thanked his Swedish and Polish counterparts for their support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity highlighting the EU’s significant role in the conflict resolution process.
