David Zalkaliani has met with the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, George Kent

 11.10.2018, Tbilisi – The Georgian Foreign Minister, David Zalkaliani held a meeting with the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, George Kent.
 
The sides discussed key trends of co-operation within the margins of strategic partnership between the two countries. Highlighting the recent intensification of communication between the strategic partners at the high and highest levels, Zalkaliani and Kent spoke about the dynamics that has been gained in defence and security co-operation. They also pledged to make special efforts towards further strengthening of economic co-operation.  
 
Discussions also focused on the ongoing processes in the region, including on the security challenges. Talking points included the difficult situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and the special role of the United States in the conflict resolution process.
 
David Zalkaliani expressed his gratitude for USAID’s assistance that goes towards the strengthening of democratic institutions and economic development. Special mention was taken of the fact that Georgia received high ratings in the main indicators of economic and democratic development.

The U.S. Deputy Assistant  Secretary of State reaffirmed his government’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
 
It was George Kent’s first official visit to Georgia in his capacity as the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State  for European and Eurasian Affairs.
