“We are part of European order, we are part of European security and we are ready to contribute to that as much as we can” – Mikheil Janelidze

21.04.2017, Tbilisi - Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze participated in the South Caucasus Security Forum where he appeared before the attending audience and spoke extensively about Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, threats from Russia and security of Georgia and the black Sea Region as a whole.

The Minister paid special attention to the deteriorated human rights situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, as well as to continued militarization which is a serious threat and significantly contributes to the instability of the region. According to the Minister, despite all the recent developments in the occupied territories, the Georgian Government will remain constructive in relations with Russia. Georgia is committed to peaceful resolution of the conflict.

He thanked the international community, including international organizations and partner countries for the support to address the challenges facing the country. In this context he highlighted the importance of the CoE Secretary General’s 15th Consolidated Report on the Conflict in Georgia, which received unprecedented level of support.

“One of the main tasks of the Georgian Government is to effectively counter wide range of threats and create a safe, democratic and economically promising environment for all citizens. The security means not only keeping safe the country from an external aggression or other security threats, but also to strengthen democratic institutions, guarantee political and personal freedoms, provide economic opportunities for everyone” – Mikheil Janelidze said.  
 
According to the Minister, significant achievements in Georgia’s EU integration agenda affirm the European and pro-western choice, with the overwhelming majority of the Georgian population standing by this choice.
 
The Minister underlined the importance of more active involvement of the NATO and EU in EaP and especially in the Black Sea region, which is crucial factor to ensure stable and peaceful development of countries in the region.

“Only together, by common efforts we are capable to overcome all problems we face and Georgia is ready to continue be a reliable partner for the NATO and EU in the region” – Mikheil Janelidze said.
