Political consultations have been held between the Foreign Ministries of Georgia and Turkmenistan

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze received the head of the Turkmen delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hadjiev. During the meeting, the sides discussed issues relating to co-operation between their two countries. The Georgian side expressed its readiness to contribute to the development of close relations in various areas.
Within the framework of the Turkmen delegation’s visit, the 5th round of political consultations between the Georgian and Turkmen Foreign Ministries was held.  The Georgian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Jalagania.

The sides exchanged views over a broad spectrum of bilateral and regional co-operation between the two countries. Participants of the consultations expressed their satisfaction with the high level of bilateral contacts in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The sides emphasized that 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relatons between Georgia and Turkmenistan.

The focus of consultations was on the further development of economic co-operation, the need to fully use the capacities of the Transcaspian energy and transport corridors, the promotion of joint ventures, the realization of the potential of Georgia’s maritime ports, improvement of the legislative frameworks of the two countries and further development of cooperation between the legislative authorities of Georgia and Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The sides agreed to hold 6th round of consultations in Ashkhabad.
