Comment of the Representative of the Georgian Foreign Ministry Vladimer Konstantinidi regarding Sergey Lavrov’s statements

The Representative of the Georgian Foreign Ministry Vladimer Konstantinidi commented on the Russian Foreign Minister’s statements regarding Georgia.

“We have read Sergey Lavrov’s statements. As far as the safety aspect is concerned, I’d like to assure you that the safety of citizens and tourists of foreign countries, including Russia, is fully ensured in Georgia given that Georgia is a safe country as evidenced by various international ratings, and is recognized as such by the EU.

In order to lead the country out of the deadlock created after the occupation in 2008, it is necessary to launch the process of de-occupation for which respective steps need to be taken within the format of the Geneva International Discussions. The aim of the Geneva dialogue is to ensure that Russia complies with its international obligations under the Ceasefire Agreement and de-occupies the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, as well as to achieve the restoration of the territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders and the return of refugees and internally displaced people to the homes of their origin.

It is also important to maintain the sort of progress already made in the trade-economic and humanitarian areas. To retain the results achieved, it is necessary to de-escalate the tension” - Vladimer Konstantinidi said.
