Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia on the so-called “elections” conducted in the so-called “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia condemns the so-called elections organized in Ukraine’s integral Eastern regions - the so-called “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics”, on 11 November.  The conduction of such illegal “elections” in the regions, where due to the Russian Federation’s effective control, the Ukrainian Authorities are unable to exercise their legitimate jurisdiction, grossly violates the fundamental norms and principles of International Law and represents rude interference into the internal affairs of Ukraine. This completely contradicts the commitments under the Minsk Agreements and prevents the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia unequivocally supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
