Vakhtang Makharoblishvili has participated in the discussions held on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia

5.09.2019, Slovenia – Acting First Deputy Foreign Minister Vakhtang Makharoblishvili took part in the discussions on the impact of  misinformation campaigns in the EaP countries, held on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. The discussions were attended by government representatives, as well as experts from the European Commission, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, United States and the Czech Republic.
“The main source of misinformation in Georgia is Russia, whose campaign is targeted against Georgia’s democratic institutions and European choice” – Vakhtang Makharoblishvili said.
He discussed the ways for governments, media organizations and civil society to timely detect pieces of misinformation and not to let them lead the population into error or shake their belief in values that are common to all European citizens. Discussions also focused on the need to find out effective ways of cooperation between the EaP countries, EU and NATO Member States in dealing with the flow of misinformation.
Within the margins of the forum, Vakhtang Makharoblishvili met with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid. The sides exchanged views over the recent developments in Georgia’s occupied regions and Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Bled Strategic Forum is held annually to discuss issues of global importance.
