Statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry on the signing of a contract with the Swiss SGS Company

The final round of negotiations between the Georgian authorities and the Swiss company SGS  (Société Générale de Surveillance SA) was held in Bern on December 19, through the mediation of the Swiss Foreign Ministry. The Georgian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Dondua, and included representatives of the Ministries of Finance, Economy and Internal Affairs.
On closing of the negotiations, the Georgian Revenue Service signed a contract with the SGS, which will ensure that monitoring is carried out as provided for by the Agreement on “the basic principles for a Mechanism of customs administration and monitoring of trade in goods” signed between the Georgian and Russian Governments in 2011.
For practical implementation of the 2011 agreement, it is necessary that the Russian side also signs a similar contract with the Swiss company, so that the sides can start fulfilling the obligations undertaken in the contract.
