Within the framework of his visit to Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, met the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson.
During the meeting, the sides spoke about the European Commission’s 12 recommendations and the progress on their implementation by Georgia. The Georgian side once again confirmed its readiness to make maximum efforts in this regard.
Special attention was paid to the importance of granting the candidate status to Georgia. The sides expressed the hope that the country's progress on the path of European integration will be properly reflected in the report of the European Commission.
The sides highly evaluated the EU-Georgia energy cooperation and emphasized Georgia’s growing role in the process of ensuring Europe's energy security, and also expressed the hope that the energy cooperation will deepen further and will be upgraded to a strategic level in the near future, for which both sides are ready.
Discussions focused on energy projects of global importance, in which Georgia is involved. Special attention was paid to the importance of the Black Sea cable project.
The sides emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with the European Union in the towards green energy development.
