On 24 March 2023, a preparatory meeting of the 57th round of Geneva International Discussions was held by video conference with the co-chairs from the European Union, the United Nations and the OSCE.
From the Georgian side, the meeting was chaired by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the head of the Georgian delegation at Geneva International Discussions, Lasha Darsalia. The participants of the meeting emphasized the great importance of international negotiations in Geneva as it represents the only platform for Georgia and Russia to negotiate on Russia's implementation of the EU-brokered 12 August ceasefire agreement.
The Georgian delegation emphasized the need to effectively use the format in order to achieve progress on the main issues of the agenda, such as: Russia's fulfillment of its international obligations under the 12 August ceasefire agreement, in particular - the withdrawal of Russian military forces from the territory of Georgia and the safe and decent return of internally displaced persons and refugees. Emphasis was also put on the need to restore the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali without any preconditions and to hold this mechanism in Gali and Ergneti regularly, in accordance with the basic principles. The 57th round of the Geneva International Discussions will be held on 4 and 5April 2023.
