On 12 June 2024, in The Hague, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Teimuraz Janjalia held a meeting with Marcel de Vink, Director General of Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the meeting, both parties praised the close and multifaceted relations established between Georgia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, spanning bilateral and multilateral formats. They welcomed the recent round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries on 11 June and highlighted the importance of using this platform effectively. Additionally, they positively assessed the dynamic bilateral trade and economic relations, exploring ways to further benefit from the existing potential.
Teimuraz Janjalia expressed gratitude to the Netherlands for its support of Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-recognition policy, and European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
The parties also celebrated the European Council's decision in December 2023 to grant Georgia candidate status. Janjalia reiterated Georgia's unwavering European choice and updated the Netherlands on the measures taken under the association agreement obligations and the European Commission's recommendations.
Discussions extended to regional and global issues. Janjalia briefed the Dutch diplomat on the current situation in Georgia's occupied territories and the region's security challenges, emphasizing Georgia's constructive role in promoting regional peace and implementing peace initiatives.
Marcel de Vink reaffirmed the Netherlands' steadfast support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to maintain close cooperation.
