Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, David Bakradze, participated in the UN Conference dedicated to Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) entitled “Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development“.
In his address to conference participants, Ambassador Bakradze outlined Georgia’s approach to implementing SDG 16, reaffirming the country’s strong commitment to the principles of peace, justice, and the strengthening of institutions - key pillars of sustainable development.
He emphasized that the Government of Georgia is undertaking significant efforts in the process of digital transformation and actively leveraging technology to improve the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of public service delivery. As a concrete example of this progress, he highlighted the operation of 124 public service centers across the country, providing citizens with access to nearly 500 services.
The statement also detailed proactive measures taken by Georgia to ensure equitable access to services for all citizens. These include the provision of up to 500 e-services through the portal my.gov.ge, the deployment of mobile services to reach rural populations, and the successful integration of the public service center model into both the penitentiary system and services for persons with disabilities.
Ambassador Bakradze also addressed the challenges arising from the Russian occupation of Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions. He noted that the ongoing occupation continues to hinder the full realization of SDG 16 principles for populations living beyond the occupation line, creating serious humanitarian and human rights concerns.
In conclusion, the Ambassador announced that Georgia will host the United Nations Civil Service Forum in Tbilisi in June 2026.
