On 4 September 2024, bilateral political consultations between the foreign ministries of Georgia and Serbia took place in Belgrade. The consultations were led by Teimuraz Janjalia, Georgia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Tamara Rastova Siamashvili, Serbia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focused on the cooperation agenda between the two countries, evaluating existing sectoral collaboration and exploring ways to deepen relations. Special attention was given to the untapped potential in trade, economy, and tourism, with the introduction of direct flights being highlighted as a key priority.
Both sides reaffirmed their mutual support for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within their internationally recognized borders. The Georgian delegation also provided detailed information on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, discussing the ongoing security challenges and the severe humanitarian conditions on the ground.
Teimuraz Janjalia also met with Serbia’s Deputy Minister for EU Affairs, Milos Todorovic, where they discussed shared goals regarding EU integration and exchanged updates on reforms undertaken in this context. The consultations also touched on global political issues, including security challenges and current developments in the South Caucasus, Balkan region, and Central Asia.
As part of the visit to Belgrade, Teimuraz Janjalia held a meeting with Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Đurić, where they reviewed key bilateral and multilateral topics. Additional meetings were held with Marina Raguš, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Serbia's National Assembly, Tatiana Jović, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Serbia, and Vladimir Ateljević, Advisor to the Minister of European Integration.
