On 27 March 2024, the 9th round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Republic of Korea was held in Tbilisi. From the Georgian side, the delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, and from the Korean side, by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Chung Byung-Won.
During the discussions, both parties addressed various current topics regarding their bilateral relations and explored potential areas for future collaboration. This included the significance of conducting high-level visits, enhancing the bilateral legal framework, and reinforcing parliamentary connections. Additionally, there was an emphasis on the importance of establishing a full-fledged embassy of the Republic of Korea in Tbilisi, highlighting the potential to strengthen the friendly and partnership relations between Georgia and Korea moving forward.
Within the framework of consultations, special attention was focused on the great potential of bilateral trade and economic cooperation; Significant progress was made towards the signing of the economic partnership agreement between Georgia and the Republic of Korea, which should serve as a kind of catalyst in the expansion of trade and economic relations between the two countries; The sides emphasized the importance of fostering cooperation across various sectors including investment, technology, culture, tourism, education, agriculture, sports, and environmental protection.
Furthermore, discussions also revolved around the significance of enhancing multilateral cooperation within diverse international organizations. Additionally, both parties exchanged information concerning ongoing developments at the regional level. Concluding the meeting, the Republic of Korea's delegation reiterated its steadfast support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty within the internationally recognized borders.
