On 28 December 2024, the annual meeting of the heads of Georgia’s diplomatic missions abroad, "Ambassadors' Conference 2024: Georgia's Foreign Policy Priorities in the Contemporary Geopolitical Reality," was officially opened. The gathered diplomats were addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, in her welcoming speech.
In her remarks, the Minister discussed Georgia's foreign policy priorities and the international challenges facing the country in the context of today’s complex realities. “The ongoing developments in our region, which are at the epicenter of global politics, have the most painful impact on Georgia. This demands exceptional caution and, simultaneously, courage to safeguard our national interests under these circumstances,” Botchorishvili stated.
She emphasized that the Georgian government's foreign policy priorities are focused on restoring the country’s territorial integrity through peaceful means, strengthening sovereignty, ensuring stability and security, advancing Georgia’s integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, and deepening relations with international partners.
“Considering today’s challenges, only through steadfast, pragmatic, and results-oriented policies can we fulfill and achieve our constitutional objectives,” the Minister underscored.
Furthermore, Bochorishvili highlighted the influence of foreign policy on the development of domestic policies, noting the critical importance of correctly interpreting domestic policies and conducting a thorough analysis of international politics to defend Georgia’s interests effectively in this complex environment.
The Minister also stressed the need for robust state institutions to ensure the country's functionality and resilience. “Strong, well-functioning state institutions are the cornerstone of sovereignty and the protection of national interests. Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one of the principal institutions positioned on the frontlines, safeguarding peace, stability, economic development, and the vital interests of our citizens,” she remarked.
Maka Botchorishvili expressed gratitude to Georgian diplomats for their dedication to protecting the country's interests and their loyalty to Georgia.
Notably, during the Ambassadors' Conference, participants will have the opportunity to deliberate on Georgia's foreign policy priorities, address existing challenges, and outline future plans.
