The meeting focused on the longstanding friendly and partnership relations between Argentina and Georgia. Ilia Darchiashvili underscored the importance of deepening relations with Argentina, highlighting its significant role as both a regional and global player.
The ministers discussed the current situation in Europe and the impact of the regional security environment on the global agenda. They particularly examined Georgia's heightened regional and international role following its obtaining an EU candidate status. This elevated status is closely linked to Georgia's significance, along with the southeastern European region, in terms of transit and energy route development.
The two sides extensively discussed the potential for enhancing trade and economic relations. They specifically focused on Georgia's advantageous trade and investment prospects, which include its free trade agreements with the European Union, China, and other regional countries, as well as Georgia's growing significance in the economic and security dynamics of the Black Sea region.
The ministers expressed positive views on Georgia's active participation in cooperation initiatives involving countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. They emphasized the importance of sustaining and strengthening these collaborative efforts in the future.
Ilia Darchiashvili expressed gratitude to his Argentinian counterpart for its unwavering support toward Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, which serves as a significant message for the broader region.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Argentina, Nicolas Posse, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, an exhibition showcasing historical documents took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina. Among the exhibits was the act of recognition of Georgia's independence, signed by the then-president of Argentina, Hipólito Irigoyen, on 15 September 1919. The exhibition highlighted the history of official correspondence exchanged between the two countries from 1918 to 1921.
Furthermore, as part of the meeting, an agreement was signed between Argentina and Georgia regarding the possibility of employment for family members of individuals serving as diplomats in their respective countries of residence.
