Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Delivers a Public Lecture at the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy

As part of her visit to Hungary, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, delivered a public lecture at the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy. The Foreign Minister introduced Hungary’s young diplomats to Georgia’s foreign policy priorities and engaged in a discussion, addressing their questions.

In her public address, Maka Botchorishvili provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities Georgia has faced since regaining independence. She elaborated on issues related to sovereignty and territorial integrity, Georgia’s integration into the European Union, the country’s economic development, and cooperation with Hungary.

The Minister emphasized that EU membership remains one of Georgia’s foremost foreign policy priorities. She underscored that the European choice has been a declared policy of Georgia since the country restored its independence. Reviewing the tangible progress achieved in recent years on the path to European integration, she highlighted that overcoming the current challenges in Georgia-EU relations requires an open and constructive dialogue.

Minister Botchorishvili also addressed Georgia’s economic development, noting that, according to various international rankings, the country holds leading positions in terms of ease of doing business and low corruption levels. She highlighted Georgia’s free trade regime and the double-digit economic growth recorded in recent years, which have positioned the country as an attractive destination for investment and have opened new avenues for economic cooperation with various states.

Furthermore, the Minister stressed that Georgia is implementing projects of strategic importance for the region and leveraging its geographical location to advance connectivity initiatives. She also underlined Georgia’s potential contribution to the European Union, emphasizing that the country can play a vital role in broader European security.

Additionally, the Foreign Minister spoke about the significance of Hungary’s support, expressing Georgia’s deep appreciation for Hungary’s assistance. She announced that an intergovernmental meeting between the two countries is planned for the near future, which will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss cooperation in various fields.
