Ilia Darchiashvili has met with the Vice President of the European Commission, Věra Jourová

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a meeting with the Vice President of the European Commission, the European Commissioner for Values and Transparency, Věra Jourová.

During the meeting, they acknowledged the significance of the historic decision in December 2023 to grant candidate status to Georgia, recognizing it as a reflection of the Georgian people's civilizational choice and the government's dedication to becoming an integral part of the European community.

Darchiashvili spoke extensively about ongoing reforms aimed at aligning Georgia with EU standards, elaborating on progress made in implementing the 9 priorities outlined by the European Commission. The reaffirmation of Georgia's commitment to European values and its obligations in the journey toward EU integration was also emphasized.

During their meeting, Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Vice President Věra Jourová exchanged perspectives on the law concerning transparency of foreign influence. The minister presented Georgia's arguments, while the vice president highlighted the pressing challenges prompting discussions about similar mechanisms within the European Union.

The discussions also encompassed security challenges in the region and the challenging humanitarian conditions prevailing in Georgia's occupied territories.

Minister Darchiashvili reiterated Georgia's readiness for cooperation to Vice President Jourová emphasizing that the country's primary focus is on making further strides toward EU membership.

Additionally, Minister Darchiashvili is participating in events marking the 20th anniversary of the 2004 EU enlargement, organized by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 29-30 April. During this visit, he will engage in meetings with EU representatives and fellow ministers.
