The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia hosted a delegation from the Border and Migration Department of the Republic of Albania.
The purpose of the visit was to share Georgia’s experience in combating irregular migration, with a particular focus on international cooperation and the legislative and procedural frameworks surrounding readmission agreements.
The Georgian delegation was led by Giorgi Tabatadze, Director of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. The Albanian delegation was headed by Loreta Spirollari, Director of the Directorate of Migration at the Border and Migration Department of the Republic of Albania. The meeting was held with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
During the meeting, the Albanian counterparts were briefed on both the international and national dimensions of the implementation of the Georgia-EU Readmission Agreement. In addition, the guests were introduced to Georgia’s electronic system for managing readmission applications, which has been widely recognized over the years as a highly effective tool.
The Albanian side expressed keen interest in Georgia’s successful experience. Both parties agreed to continue cooperation in this area and to share best practices.
