Ilia Darchiashvili has met with the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Romanian Senate

On 19 October 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, met with the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Romanian Senate, Titus Corlăţean who is visiting Georgia, and the members of the committee.

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides highlighted the existing strategic partnership between Georgia and Romania and the prospects for future cooperation in this context. Special Attention was focused on political and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as on the importance of fully realizing the Black Sea potential, including in the area of transport, energy and connectivity being  Georgia’s and the European Union’s shared priorities.

Discussions focused on the steps taken by Georgia towards fulfilling the European Commission’s 12 recommendations and the results achieved in this regard. The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his belief that Georgia’s efforts will be evaluated fairly and based on merit, and by the end of the year Georgia will receive the candidate status.

Talking points also included the security environment in the region and the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his gratitude for Romania's strong support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Special note was taken of Georgia’s progress on the path of integration into the European Union.
