On 25 February 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, met with the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Jürg Lauber.
Minister Botchorishvili congratulated Jürg Lauber on his election as President of the UN Human Rights Council.
The discussion focused on cooperation within the framework of the Human Rights Council. The Minister emphasized that, as a member of the Council (2023–2025), Georgia remains committed to fulfilling its obligations within its mandate. In alignment with the Council’s priorities, Georgia actively collaborates with international partners to protect the rights of vulnerable groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, and population affected by conflict.
Minister Botchorishvili highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Georgia’s occupied territories, stressing that Russia’s disregard for its international obligations continues to hinder the operation of international monitoring mechanisms.
Both sides underlined the importance of supporting the UN Human Rights Council resolution on "Cooperation with Georgia" and maintaining the issue of Georgia’s occupied territories high on the UN agenda.
The meeting also addressed the Geneva International Discussions, emphasizing their role in the peaceful resolution of the conflict and the need for Russia to comply with its international obligations. The significance of UN engagement in these efforts was reaffirmed.
