Maka Botchorishvili has met with the Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar

During her visit to New Delhi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, held a meeting with the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The two ministers discussed the active and growing dynamics of bilateral relations between Georgia and India, as well as ways to further enhance cooperation to fully leverage the existing potential.

Emphasizing the importance of high-level political dialogue, the ministers explored opportunities for increasing exchanges of bilateral visits and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation formats. They agreed to hold meetings within the framework of political consultations and economic commissions in the near future.

Regarding the development of cooperation in various sectors, both sides highlighted the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties, fostering closer business relations, enhancing collaboration in education, and deepening people-to-people and tourism exchanges. The ministers welcomed the increased frequency of direct flights operated by the Indian airline IndiGo, recognizing its role in further enhancing connectivity between the two nations.

The discussion also underscored the significance of signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Georgia and India, which would be a major step toward boosting the trade and economic partnership between the two countries.

Minister Bochorishvili welcomed the opening of India’s resident embassy in Tbilisi, noting that Georgia eagerly anticipates the arrival of India’s first resident ambassador, a development that will significantly contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued close cooperation and to further exploring the full potential of the Georgia-India partnership.
