On 25 March 2024, Teimuraz Janjalia, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, held a meeting with Balash Molnar, the Deputy Secretary of State for EU Policy at the Hungarian Ministry of EU Affairs, and Baglarka Ballester-Bolia, the Minister's Commissioner. The Hungarian delegation was on a working visit to Georgia at the time.
During the meeting, the discussion revolved around Georgia's path towards joining the European Union and Hungary's upcoming role as the chair of the Council of the European Union.
The Hungarian representatives expressed strong support for Georgia's EU membership aspirations and offered assistance in the accession process. They highlighted that EU enlargement would be a key focus of Hungary's presidency action programme.
The Hungarian delegation positively acknowledged Georgia's progress in implementing reforms and fulfilling obligations under the Association Agreement, which has prepared the country well for the EU accession process and resulted in relevant EU decisions. Both sides emphasized the potential for increased connectivity between Georgia and the EU, particularly concerning the Black Sea region, and agreed to collaborate on strategic projects for mutual benefit.
Additionally, the parties discussed the complex geopolitical situation in the region, with particular attention to security challenges faced by Georgia, including issues related to the occupied regions
