Competition Announced by Tbilisi City Hall to Mark the 150th Anniversary of Akaki Chkhenkeli’s Birth

Contracting Authority and Organizer of the Competition:
The contracting authority and organizer of the competition for selecting the best design sketch and cost-estimate documentation for the installation of an architectural-artistic composition (bust) of Akaki Chkhenkeli in the square located between Merab Kostava and Tkvarcheli Streets in Tbilisi (cadastral code: 01.10.13.040.122) (hereinafter the Competition) is the Tbilisi Municipal Government (hereinafter the City Hall).

Chapter I

General Provisions

1.1. In view of the high level of public interest in the placement of an architectural-artistic composition (bust) of Akaki Chkhenkeli in the capital city of Georgia, the City Hall, with the involvement of the professional community, announces an open creative competition. The basis for this is Order No. N1-123 of the Mayor of Tbilisi of 15 March 2024, “On the expediency of placing an architectural-artistic composition (bust) of Akaki Chkhenkeli in the square located between Merab Kostava and Tkvarcheli Streets (cadastral code: 01.10.13.040.122).”

1.2. Evaluation of the submitted materials and selection of the winner shall be undertaken by the Commission established pursuant to Order No. N1-461 of the Mayor of Tbilisi of 19 October 2023, “On the establishment of a competition commission for the selection of the best design sketch and cost-estimate documentation for architectural-artistic compositions within the administrative boundaries of Tbilisi Municipality and on the approval of its statute.”

1.3. The competition announcement and accompanying documentation will be published on the official websites of the Tbilisi City Hall, the Tbilisi City Council, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation named after Giorgi Chubinashvili, the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts named after Apollon Kutateladze, the Union of Architects and Sculptors of Tbilisi (ID: 204561492), the Union of Artists of Georgia (ID: 204898691), the Union of Designers of Georgia (ID: 404966177), and the Union of Architects of Georgia (ID: 201950549).

Chapter II

Purpose and Objectives of the Competition

2.1. The purpose of the competition is to place an architectural-artistic composition (bust) of Akaki Chkhenkeli in the square located between Merab Kostava and Tkvarcheli Streets in Tbilisi (cadastral code: 01.10.13.040.122).

2.2. The objective of the competition is to identify, on the basis of open competition and with due regard to public and professional interests, the best conceptual sketch for the architectural-artistic composition (bust) and an optimal cost-estimate proposal for its implementation (hereinafter – the Proposal).
