The program aims to involve Georgians residing abroad in the advancement of Georgia’s national interests on the international stage, to promote Georgia globally, to preserve national identity and cultural distinctiveness among compatriots abroad - including raising awareness about Georgia among younger generations - to foster public diplomacy, and to encourage the deepening of cultural and economic ties with host countries. Additional objectives include implementing initiatives that support Georgia’s foreign policy goals, raising international awareness on the topics of de-occupation and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, promoting the country’s economic potential and Georgian products, and ensuring informational support for the program’s objectives.
The grant program provides Georgian citizens with the opportunity to implement their ideas through a transparent competition process, thereby contributing to greater diversity in diaspora activities and strengthening ties between Georgians in Georgia and compatriots living abroad.
Winners of the program are selected through a competition evaluated by a commission composed of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Administration of the President of Georgia, the Parliament’s Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been implementing the grant program “Support for Diaspora Initiatives” since 2019.
