Within the framework of his visit to the Kingdom of Sweden, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia held a meeting in the Swedish Parliament, where the Georgian delegation was hosted by the Chairman of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlén. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Swedish Parliament, Eron Emilsson, and members of the committee.
The sides discussed the close friendly ties between Georgia and Sweden and the long-term support that Sweden has shown for Georgia's integration into the European Union. As it was mentioned at the meeting, Sweden actively continues to support Georgia's aspirations, including during the Swedish presidency of the Council of the European Union. Also, the Swedish side emphasized the successful progress of Georgia on the path of integration into the European Union and the progress that the country has achieved since the restoration of independence in terms of democracy.
The minister informed the chairman and members of the Swedish Parliament about the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 recommendations. the political and historical significance of granting the country the candidate status was also noted.
Discussions focused on the security environment in the region. The Swedish side once again condemned the occupation of Georgian territories by Russia. Ilia Darchiashvili shared with the members of the Swedish Parliament the Georgian government’s vision on the peaceful resolution of the conflict and thanked Sweden for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia on both bilateral and international platforms.
