George Zurabashvili Participates in the United Nations Security Council High-Level Open Debate

The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, George Zurabashvili, participated in the United Nations Security Council high-level open debate entitled: “Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered Multilateral System.”

In his address, the First Deputy Minister underscored Georgia’s steadfast commitment to the Charter of the United Nations, highlighting the importance of the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the necessity of strengthening multilateralism in maintaining international peace and security.

George Zurabashvili also spoke extensively about existing security challenges, drawing particular attention to Russia’s occupation of Georgian territories and underscoring the grave humanitarian situation in the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions. The First Deputy Minister reaffirmed that Georgia remains firmly committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Furthermore, George Zurabashvili highlighted Georgia’s role in advancing transit, trade and energy connectivity, noting its contribution to long-term regional stability.

Within the framework of his working visit to New York City, the First Deputy Minister held bilateral meetings with the Minister of State for Europe of the Federal Republic of Germany, Gunther Krichbaum, and the Special Representative of the Republic of Austria, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal.
