Ilia Darchiashvili: “For Georgians the Euro-Atlantic integration is more than just a goal – it is a strategic vision and a guarantee for the long-term stable democratic development and security of our country”

“For Georgians the Euro-Atlantic integration is more than just a goal – it is a strategic vision and a guarantee for the long-term stable democratic development and security of our country” – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, said at the event organized by the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia, which was dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the organization.

The Minister paid special attention to NATO enlargement process which has played a key role in further extending and promoting the fundamental values of the Alliance – freedom, rule of law, democracy and individual liberty.

Today is truly a historic day for NATO as Finland is being welcomed as the thirty-first member of NATO. As Secretary General mentioned: “It is a good day for Finland’s security, for Nordic security, and for NATO as a whole.” All Allies agree that Sweden’s accession should also be completed quickly. Georgia welcomes these decisions by the Alliance, which are yet another demonstration that NATO delivers on its promises.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also spoke extensively about Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations:
“Since regaining the independence, the price, Georgian people have paid for pursuing their goal to become a member of the Euro-Atlantic community is immeasurable. At the same time, the exact number of those sacrificed their lives for defending shared Euro-Atlantic security is well known, especially in this audience. Importantly, with the help and support of NATO, Georgia has significantly developed its defense and deterrence capabilities” – Ilia Darchiashvili highlighted.

The Minister emphasized the importance of the allies’ strong support for Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

The event was attended by representatives of the executive and legislative authorities of Georgia, as well as diplomatic corps and non-governmental organizations.
