The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Georgia, Gareth Ward.
The parties discussed the dynamics of bilateral relations between the two countries. In this context, the Foreign Minister emphasized that recent statements and actions by representatives of the UK’s executive and legislative branches - including the imposition of sanctions on Georgian citizens - cast a shadow over the strategic partnership and friendship between Georgia and the United Kingdom, and are often aimed at influencing Georgia’s internal political processes.
The discussion also focused upon recent legislative developments in Georgia regarding foreign funding. The Ambassador was informed that the process of drafting relevant regulations under the new legislation is nearing completion and that all interested parties will be promptly provided with the necessary information.
In reference to ongoing domestic developments in Georgia, the Foreign Minister stressed that legal processes should not be politicized and that attempts to exert pressure on the judiciary must be avoided.
The conversation also addressed regional security challenges. In this regard, the importance of the effective functioning of state institutions was underlined as essential for ensuring national stability and security.
