Visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Khvtisiashvili to Palau

A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, headed by Deputy Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili, participated as a special guest in the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.

The high-level annual meeting focused on issues related to sustainable development, regional security and climate change.

As part of the visit, the Georgian delegation held bilateral meetings with Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretary-General Baron Waqa, President of the Republic of Palau Surangel Whipps Jr., and President of the Republic of Nauru David Adeang.

The delegation also held meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Japan, Serbia, the Cook Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga, the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia, as well as with other representatives of the delegations participating in the event.

During the meetings, the sides discussed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism, sports, education, environmental protection, agriculture and culture. Representatives of the Pacific island countries expressed their appreciation to the Georgian side for its interest in strengthening cooperation with the countries of the region. They reaffirmed their strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed their readiness to further deepen relations with Georgia across various sectors.
